Sacramento – California State Commanders Veterans Council (CSCVC) announced its support for Proposition 1, the Veterans and Affordable Housing Act, and is joining the steering committee committed to passing the measure on the statewide November ballot.

“Finding housing that veterans can afford is one of major challenges service members and their families face when they reintegrate into civilian life,” says Greg Lee, Chairman of the California State Commanders Veterans Council. “We strongly support the passage of Proposition 1 and will be working with our member organizations to educate veterans and all Californians about the importance of its passage this November.”

CSCVC and the 19 leading veterans and military service organizations it represents said helping veterans and other Californians access stable, affordable housing aligns with CSCVC’s mission to work collaboratively to evaluate policies affecting California’s veterans and military, whether active, reserve, National Guard, or retired. Founded in 1966, the Council meets regularly to coordinate strategies to advance veterans issues at the state level.

Chairman Lee continued: “We are pleased to be part of the efforts to pass Proposition 1 to build affordable homes for veteran, seniors, and working families and to help address the growing problem of homelessness in our communities and people unable to live in the communities where they work and want to raise their families.”

Governor Jerry Brown and California’s Legislature put Proposition 1 on the November ballot as part of a multi-pronged strategy in the 2017-18 State Budget to address the crisis faced by the many Californians who can’t afford the cost of housing, including veterans, families, seniors, survivors of domestic violence and others in need of a stable roof over their head. Proposition 1 will boost the building of affordable homes and increase access to housing under a variety of successful housing programs, including the CalVets Home Loan Program.
