Two November ballot measures received support from Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and the City Council last week with Garcetti saying that Propositions 1 and 2 could give L.A. an edge in the battle against homelessness. Prop 1 would authorize a $4 billion bond to build and provide affordable housing for veterans, working families, people with disabilities and the homeless. Most of that money would go to the CalVet Home Loan Program, which offers loans to veterans for the purchase of homes, but development near public transit, high-density affordable and mixed-income housing, and farm ownership would all be supported.
